Dalian, China—The 19th International Forum on Atrial Fibrillation (CAFS 2021) was held recently under the theme “New Concept, New Approach, New Future”. Hosted by the Chinese Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (CSPE) of Chinese Medical Association (CMA), the Heart Rhythm Society of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering, and the Heart Rhythm Special Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA), and co-organized by Beijing Anzhen Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, the Forum reviewed the milestones in the field of treatments for atrial fibrillation over the past 20 years and also identified the direction for future development. During the Forum, Shanghai MicroPort EP MedTech Co., Ltd. (“MicroPort EP”) attracted wide attention from practitioners through presentations and demonstrations of its Columbus®️ 3D EP Navigation System V3, which features electromagnetic positioning.

MicroPort EP also held a satellite session titled “Strengthening Chinese brands: AF diagnosis and treatment supported by MicroPort EP”, which focused on the exchange of case studies, experience in the use of consumables, procedures and the application of made-in-China electrophysiological devices in the context of China’s medical insurance system. The satellite session was co-chaired by Prof. Lianjun Gao from the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University and Prof. Bo Yu from the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University, Prof. Zhaoguang Liang from the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, Prof. Fengmin Lu from the Tianjin Chest Hospital and Prof. Guitang Yang from the People's Hospital of Liaoning Province, and featured Prof. Guojian Sun from the Zhejiang Greentown International Cardiovascular Hospital, Prof. Shaolong Li from the Yan'an Hospital affiliated to Kunming Medical University, Dr. Akmal Yakubov from Uzbekistan and Prof. Zidun Wang from the Jiangsu Provincial People's Hospital.

Professor Shaolong Li gave a detailed yet easy-to-follow introduction to the anatomical structure and spacial relationship between the aortic cusp and the left and right atria through a case study of ablation of focal atrial tachycardia from the non-coronary aortic sinus, which was guided by the Columbus®️ 3D EP Navigation System. Using the Columbus® system to map the internal structures, he completed the ablation in less than 40 minutes. Dr. Akmal Yakubov from Uzbekistan, who attended the Forum for the first time, presented in detail a case report highlighting his experience of using the Columbus® system to guide atrial fibrillation ablation. His practical experience was highly recognized by experts in the Forum. Prof. Zidun Wang shared the impact of DRGs policy on electrophysiologists based on the existing health insurance policies and explained the importance of made-in-China electrophysiological devices from the perspective of health economics. Professor Guojian Sun presented his experience with the use of MicroPort EP's Steerable Introducer in atrial fibrillation surgeries. He believes that the clinical experience of MicroPort EP’s Steerable Introducer is comparable to that of imported devices both in vitro and in vivo.
